representative at the venice the finale -- biennalle. the los angeles museum of contemporary art. the museum of contemporary art in sydney. it is my great pleasure and honor to introduce to you tim hawkinson. >> thank you, jill. directors, thank you for the opportunity to present my concept. i think i would like to start by giving some examples of my previous work to set a context for the peace. -- piece. i use a lot of sound objects in my work. in this case, i used chicken skin. i liked to cook and i was interested in using this membrane to create something interesting, the fine volume. and then another piece in which i used my own body as the form, sort of a non-self portrait. i covered my body with latex and then peeled it off, turned it inside out. another interesting piece of work is taking on this mechanical project. in this case, a school desk is accompanied by a pile of paper. combining the mechanical, volume. my largest installation piece, it is called uber organ. it was for the massachusetts contemporary art museum. it is a sound-producing piece that has 12 warrants and

san francisco won't become the venice of the west. silicon valley won't become the loss city of atlantis, and salt water won't come out the taps in southern california. why? because however much it costs we can't afford to let this happen. so we will build levies around the airports, we will build a seawall around the san francisco waterfront. flood control is already being incorporated into the planning for the salt pond to wetland conversion project in the south bay and we'll change the way we store and move fresh water around california. economically, we don't have any other choice. but the cost will be enormous. and where we'll get the money and what other important investments and expenditures we'll have to forego to afford this are the bigger questions. but we do have other choices. there may be some areas along the bay shore line where it's more cost effective to remove existing development and replace it with flood-absorbing wet lands than it is to protect the low value structures. there may be areas, particularly in the delta

venice seems to be every italy connoisseur's... prague has always been beautiful... germany... the irish civilization... the eiffel tower was built... hope you've enjoyed the magic of... stonehenge is roped off and viewable only from a distance, but england is dotted with less famous but more accessible stone circles. my favorite... avebury. the avebury stone circle, just 40 miles away, is as old as stonehenge and 16 times as big. and best of all, this megalithic playground welcomes kids, sheep, and anyone interested in a more hands-on experience.
